History
Brian first started in education as a college intern at his local school district fixing computers almost twenty years ago. After graduating from Penn State University, he worked as a consultant on supply chain management technology projects for Pfizer and Canon. Brian attended Indiana University for his MBA and was a Senior Consultant for Deloitte Consulting from 2008 to 2011, focusing on strategy and operations projects for several Fortune 500 clients. During this time, Brian volunteered with two charter management organizations in Chicago: Chicago International Charter Schools and Learn Charter Schools, where he developed his passion for improving urban education.
Brian became a Broad Resident in 2011 and joined Denver Public Schools (DPS) to serve as Project Manager for the 2012 bond and mill levy planning efforts. Overwhelmingly approved by voters, these ballot questions yielded roughly $500M of capital funding and $50M of annual operating funding for the district. In 2013, Brian became the Director of Planning & Analysis for DPS and in 2014, became the Executive Director of Planning & Choice, overseeing portfolio planning and SchoolChoice for the district.
In the ensuing five years, Brian was responsible for managing the expansion of the fastest-growing urban district in the country by forecasting future capacity needs, interfacing with city leaders and developers to allocate resources for new schools, and playing a lead role in the 2016 bond planning effort that yielded another $600M in capital funding. Additionally, Brian oversaw what has been recognized as the leading enrollment system in the country, DPS's SchoolChoice. During his time as Executive Director, Brian overhauled a manual paper-based system to mobile-friendly and multi-lingual technology that expanded participation by all demographic groups. Further, Brian gained approval for numerous policies and solutions targeting enrollment equity, including the expansion of community enrollment zones, seats for families experiencing housing displacement, socioeconomic integration pilots, and expanded outreach in harder-to-reach neighborhoods.
Brian launched Eschbacher Consulting in July 2018 to use his experience and passion for urban education to support educational organizations and their partners in thoughtfully planning for the future while keeping families at the forefront of the decision making process.
Over the past two years, Brian has supported a variety of district projects ranging from long-term planning efforts to right-size the size of the portfolio of schools to implementing enrollment solutions to improve equity of access for families while increasing transparency and data solutions for school leaders.
