Nation-wide Enrollment Risk

The Brookings Institute and Hamilton Project released a report in October 2023 about the impact of enrollment declines from before and after the pandemic. The report highlights the widespread impact of population shifts and school choice patterns ranging from large coastal cities to mid-size mid-western cities. The 74 Million reported on this work and interviewed me to add insights related to how districts are acting based on this information. These are very emotional and challenging conversations, but examples of how districts are acting more proactively and holistically in their response to this challenge can serve as a guide for other cities that are experiencing the combined enrollment-financial-student experience challenge.
