White Paper on Equity of Access
I was pleased to partner with A+ Colorado, an action-oriented advocacy group in Denver, to write a white paper that looks at enrollment in Denver over time and see the impact it has made for students. During my time at the district, we often looked at point-in-time results as a measure of impact. This paper was an exciting opportunity to take a step back and look at the landscape before unified enrollment was implemented in 2012, along with the strategies and impact of the work in the ensuing 7 years. It also shares some of the continuing challenges ahead for the district.
Overall, working on this piece was a fresh reminder that minor challenges no doubt exist when operating unified enrollment. But it is important to frame those challenges in the context of the large-scale benefits that can be delivered for families.
